We all like fashion and beauty. That's a fact. Every week, it's a nice feeling to rush to the newstand to pick up our favorite magazines. I like the smell of the paper, the glossy touch of the cover, the explosion of colors. I skim through my favorite "glossies" (usually in the subway) and every page is a dream. It's the same feeling when I was watching a Disney movie when I was a little girl. Everything is beautiful, everything is perfect. Even when you are surprised by a tad of imperfection, it's studied. Well the other side of the coin is that it makes us dream, and simultaneously, it gives rise to loads of insecurities and it treatens women's self-esteem. All we can see is perfection, we forget the studied lightings, the endless hours of make up and airbrushing, the plastic surgery, and sometimes the hours of pricey Pilate session. Of course there are plenty of dropdead gorgeous girls, but the kind of beauty we see in those magazines is nothing human.

Jessica Biel makes progress

Let's forget the Oscars disaster : bright eighties pink dress (Oscar de la Renta, whatever...) and matching lipstick. On her way to film the Late Show with David Letterman, Jessica Biel looked delectable in a gray coat paired with lovely shoes and a trendy YSL white bag. After the show, she came out in a cute creme CHLOE dress. We aren't drooling over her look yet, but it's getting better.

Trend: Platform peep-toe heels

Who and how : Beyonce rocked them to a "B'Day" photoshoot. Christina wore them to a "Back to Basics" after party in New York City. Victoria was photograped in a pair (red ones, my favorites) at an award ceremony. Gwen wore hers with trim black slacks to a taping of The Jimmy Kimmel show. JLO paired hers with black tights and a deconstructed minidress during a photocall for her new film Bordertown in Madrid. Kimberley Stewart was seen with the red ones as well.

Where : Because it is such an 'it' shoe it's proving quite elusive in terms of online shopping (Yves Saint Laurent is not particularly easy to find online anyway). YSL boutiques, instore at Browns or at a department store that stocks the brand. Expect a wait and a hefty price tag though : € 485.00, $655, £330 , celeb style never comes cheap!

Cons : used to be strippers, hookers and pornstars signature shoes (this is the magical power of fashion lol : sporting those shoes last year would've been a joke), high risk of fall at every step and a nighmare for one's back and feet, hefty price, probably a fad, walking in heels this high obviously requires skills, forget it if you're tall.

Pros : this season's hottest pumps, lots of inches for petite women, halfway between fashion boutique and sexshop, daring, good choice for the pin-up look.

My advice : Avoid the patent leather version too reminiscent of the sex shop shoes. Two heels heights are available : pick up the smaller one (just like JLO). Christina's minidress is too short and the beige tights are hideous, JLO got it perfect choosing a sassy minidress and black tights (I guess she's definitely this sesaon's fashion guru ! ) but my favorite look is Victoria's : total black outfit paired with red shoes.

Dive into mellow yellow

As you probably already know, this season it-color is YELLOW.

Dear Fashion, don't get us wrong : Yellow always looked good on the sunny days. It's just that this year, celebs dare it more.
Chronology of the phenomenon : it started coyly last summer, then trendsetter Kylie sported a sunny yellow winter jacket in January, illuminating gray London and saying goodbye to the black days.

Yellow dresses popped up in many spring 2007 collections, often as a random injection of colour in amongst more subdued tones.



Valentino : Incredibly hot and casual at the same time, elegant yellow.

Missoni : shining luxury and refinement, to have tea at the Ritz on a Sunday Afternoon :o)

Trend Alert : Stripes, Stripes, Stripes !

Maybe it's Gwen's fault, maybe not, but it's a fact : stripes are all over celebs those days. It started last year, and it's going on. I especially like how Ashley Simpson sported it : wide grey and turquoise stripes (her sweater looks so comfy, probably cashmere...) with quilted bag and black cap. Like the wet hair, it makes her look sensual.

You can easily find a lovely striped shirt for a reasonable price, my pick would definetely be Juicy Couture, at least for colored striped. This top is available here for $88.

I especially like the buttons, they add sexiness. If you wear stripes, the keyword is "Accessorize", glam it up to avoid looking like you've escaped from jail : designer sunglasses, jewelry, bags, heels...

if you want something more sophisticated, I would opt for Sonia Rykiel. Stripes have been her signature fabric since her very beginning, and no one handles it better. Usually the idea that people struggle and put themselves on waiting lists to get an object puts me off, but this canvas tote is such a brilliant idea that I have to make an exception. Dare Barbara Bui open toe boots

I remember Cameron Diaz in the movie "In her shoes", strolling about in her sister's apartment, wearing panties and a pair of designer open toe high-heeled black boots. Sooooooo sexy (No, I'm not a fetishist). I coudn't forget this scene. This season, Barbara Bui designed an entire collection of those, and although it's not an official fashion must-have (I hate this word!), I think it's daring and sexy. I would go for the beige suede ones, but if you wanna stick to the recent black chunky shoes trend, the black ones are perfect, because you'll have that stunning detail that will make people think you're not just another a fashion victim.

Plus you'll have beautiful toned legs!

I HEART B. ROMANEK

I'm surfing through the countless bag/purse/clutch/tote blogs, and I have to say most blogs are more advertising pages and big ragbags (precisely) than tasteful picks hot spots. After pages of famous designer bags worn by every unknown or indecently famous celeb, pages of ridiculously expensive edition über-limited bags and pages of bags designed by struggling designers who tries too hard to be original, I came across this gem (I know...Die-hard Fashionatas have probably known this one for months): The B. Romanek Crocodile Rockstar Clutch . I'm not a croc lover, never was, but B. Romanek managed to highlight it with carefully chosen unique colors. I'm in love with the Turquoise (above), but I would've called it Eden Garden. This bag is a little sin!

I can't resist posting the Purple one, because this shade of purple is just exquisite. It's an elegant shade, not too sweet, not too strict but I would have called it Winy. This bag is like a fresh glass of wine.

It has been spotted in the arms of a handful of celebrities. Eva Mendes and Ashley Olsen have it midnight blue, Sophie Monk and Rachel Zoe have it in the lipstick red, and Heather Locklear and Ashlee Simpson have the forest green version (L-O-V-E it).

Naomi's going YSL Downtown

Naomi Watts was spotted rockin' the hot YSL Downtown tote in dark purple. Though it's not THE Bag we see dangling from every celebs arm, The Downtown Collection has been a hit thus far for YSL and the new colors of the hits keep rolling in. I thought that the basic black and brown versions were pretty random and even dull (this shape needs more studied colors and patterns to be highlighted properly) but I like the metallic silver leather version, which was lately introduced by our friend from www.purseblog.com (a must-read! I'm from the "bag addicts" tribe, not from the "shoe addicts"one ;o) ). Silvery bags and accessories are a must-have this season, and this baby has the perfect design to dare silver.

The first time I saw ... designer cow girl boots

I went shopping yesterday, so I will post a few of my findings ;o)

I have to say I was never much a fan of cowgirl boots. I know a lot of celebs love them (ie Britney Spears, Daryl Hannah...) but to me they give an unrefined look and they are not really flattering for legs, unless you are Gisele. Needless to say few people can pull off the cowgirl look, except for Madonna during her "Music" period. Plus it's really hard to have an elegant and discreet walk with those big boots. Well Dior made up my mind. I would definetely sport those beauties. Why? because the soft leather makes me wanna shove my legs in them, the pinkinsh beige is stunning, the proportions are perfectly studied (tighter around the ankles) and the white touch on the heels is that designer touch that makes the difference. I'm awaiting your comments... :o)

A Sweet Escape with True Stars

It's nice to see Nicole and Gwen together at the Kids Choice Awards (04/02/2007). I'm so fed up with the overrated celebs constantly looking like cheap hookers ... Gwen looked classy as hell with her striped top and black sunglasses ( Gwen always knows how to choose sunglasses that fit her delicate face, not oversized like Nicole Richie who permanently looks like a bug). If you haven't seen her last music video "The Sweet Escape", watch it. The song is cute but nothing special. The video is very creative and so Gweneccentric, it's a funny tribute to gold and it looks like it was directed by this comics obsessed pop art artist, Roy Lichtenstein. Love it!
